Collaborative Divorce & Separation, Mediation
Marriage doesn’t always go as planned.
When a couple believes that separation may be an option, information about legal rights, child custody and care, taxes, and other issues is vital to making what is usually an irrevocable decision. A divorce itself can be a devastatingly adversarial process, for the couple and for their children and extended families, but it does not have to be. We offer “third-party neutral” services for couples who wish to understand divorce and legal separation, and, when necessary, to engage in a peaceful parting of ways rather than a battle.
Once communication has broken down, litigation is often the result. Courts, lawyers, and many others have recognized that the traditional, adversarial process of filing a lawsuit and seeing it through to trial is not always the best way to resolve a conflict. Litigation is time-consuming and leaves the ultimate outcome in the hands of a third-party.
Mediation is an alternative dispute resolution process – one often ordered by Courts. We offer the legal background to frame the issues while encouraging adversarial parties to communicate, with the goal of finding a mutually acceptable resolution without the time and expense of traditional litigation.
